Hemp heritage workshop
A practical introduction to hemp as one of the old, versatile plants of Lithuanian rural life: fibre, cord, food, craft and sustainability.
About the hemp workshop
Hemp has long been part of European and Lithuanian agrarian culture. In Lithuanian villages it was used for fibre, rope, food, household needs and traditional knowledge. Today, hemp is again valued for sustainability, nutrition and natural materials.
This workshop introduces the plant through history, hands-on processing and tasting. It is suitable for students, adults, families and groups, and can be adapted to different ages and interests. The workshop can be held in Lithuanian or English.
Duration: 1.5-2 hours. Recommended group: up to 20 participants. Place: the Labas Noras clay house, surrounded by Labanoras Forest.
Request a workshopHemp history
Participants learn how hemp was used in Lithuania and elsewhere: in textiles, ropes, food, household work and folk knowledge.
We also talk about hemp today, including ecological cultivation, natural fibre, food products and new sustainable uses.
Hemp in food
Guests discover old and modern food uses of hemp, from seeds and oil to regional dishes and simple tastings.
Our small farm produces hemp products, so the workshop includes practical stories about everyday use and nutrition.
Traditional fibre processing
Participants try traditional ways of preparing hemp fibre: breaking dried stalks with old tools, combing the fibre with wooden combs and twisting a hemp cord by hand.
